Distinctive Unit Insignia

Description
A gold color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height overall consisting of a white gable roof frame with a black plumb line suspended from its apex and a scarlet scroll draped in front from either side inscribed with the words EAGER TO BUILD in gold letters and issuing from behind the frame a scarlet castle masoned gold between tow green palm branches.

Symbolism
Scarlet and white are the colors used for the Engineer Corps.  The plumb line and roof frame relate to the construction aspect of the units mission, while the three sides of the frame together with the palm branches allude to the units three World War II campaigns in New Guinea and the Philippines.  The castle tower in the background, suggested by the wartime coat of arms of the Philippines, denotes the award of the Philippine Presidential Unit Citation.

Background
The distinctive unit insignia was approved on 20 July 1973.
